If Your a Fashion Brand Who Contacts Plus Size Influencers: Ask Yourself This Question Before You Send That DM

Do we carry sizes above 16?

I’ve been building my Instagram @punkrawkboss for the past year. As a plus size female who loves fashion, I like to dress the way other fashionable people dress and I love to try out trends. One day I noticed that I would receive so much praise in-real-life about my outfit choices, that I decided to start documenting it.

Last summer, I decided to start building an Instagram that focuses on fashion and beauty trends from a plus size point-of-view. I love encouraging people to dress however the eff they want and to ignore so-called beauty rules.

Since my following started to grow, I’ve been approached by quite a few fashion brands with a request to represent their clothes on my feed. If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you might have noticed that I have never done a paid sponsored post. And that’s for one important reason: I will never represent a brand that is not size inclusive.

So if you are a social media manager, content creation guru, influencer liaison, etc and you work for a fashion brand listen to me closely. Do not contact plus size influencers if you do not carry plus sizes. It’s an insult.

My journey into Social Media was an unconventional one. For four years I worked with gold-selling, internationally recognized punk band MxPx as their Social Media Manager when the title social media manager wasn’t really a thing. I help to create content to be used on the band's website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. I also assisted with event planning, public relations, web content management, and fan relations. I created and curated social media content, as well as monitored conversations surrounding all brands, evaluated analytics and consumer engagement, researched trends, assisted in product development, graphic design, and influencer relations. When I'm not pursuing my professional goals, I like to use my talents for good causes. I am a formally trained hair stylist and former educator, I like to use my skills to better my community. I have regularly organized teams for Relay for Life, routinely provided free haircuts to struggling members of my community, and organized hair-cut-athons with multiple stylists to support organizations like The Lambert House that provides help to LGBTQ teens who have no family support.
