What I Did Over Summer Vacation

Remember in elementary school when fall began and your teacher forced you to write about what you did over summer break?

Here’s the grown-up version. I didn’t get any vacations this summer (maybe next year) but I did hit the ground running when it come to content creation.

I’ve been working hard on upping my game when it comes to video production and visuals. It’s not always easy to teach yourself things like stop motion, video editing, or photo editing, but I find when I’m in charge of my learning I feel a larger sense of accomplishment.

My journey into Social Media was an unconventional one. For four years I worked with gold-selling, internationally recognized punk band MxPx as their Social Media Manager when the title social media manager wasn’t really a thing. I help to create content to be used on the band's website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. I also assisted with event planning, public relations, web content management, and fan relations. I personally started dialogues with their fan base to find out how the band could better serve them. I also assisted with eCommerce, and I am a badass as merchandise selling at concerts. Most currently I was the Social Media and Content Creation Manager for Kugo Inc, which encompasses multiple consumer packaged goods. The eCommerce brands include luxury men’s grooming lines Zeus Beard and RoyalShave. I created and curated social media content, as well as monitored conversations surrounding all brands, evaluated analytics and consumer engagement, researched trends, assisted in product development, graphic design, and influencer relations. When I'm not pursuing my professional goals, I like to use my talents for good causes. I am a formally trained hair stylist and former educator, I like to use my skills to better my community. I have regularly organized teams for Relay for Life, routinely provided free haircuts to struggling members of my community, and organized hair-cut-athons with multiple stylists to support organizations like The Lambert House that provides help to LGBTQ teens who have no family support.
